Radiotherapy

Two weeks after finishing radiotherapy treatment to my chest wall, my chest is red and blistered. I used the creams suggested and was given some gel but had to go back to the hospital to get some dressings that I was unable to get from my pharmacy or GP. I have to tape the dressing on and wear a vest top to keep it in place. I was told that the skin reaction may get worse after treatment and then start to heal. I really hope so, after masectomy and chemo, how much else to go through! But I'm near the end of treatment so feeling grateful for that, just tired of this cancer and hope I am cancer free!

  • Hello Silver,

so sorry to hear you are suffering with burns. I think you have had so much to manage and you are doing it with great courage. You are an inspiration actually. Although I am quite sure you would rather just be well!

Are you taking hormones yet? Or did you start them a while ago?  I am a reluctant taker of  Letrozole. Only taking it every other day. Not bad SE as yet but my back is quite sore today and I am a bit flat but see how I go. Not convinced I will persevere with them to be honest. See how I go.

I really hope you start to look up now your treatment has come to an end!! No more travelling to the hospital! Freedom!!

    Go easy.
    warmest wishes,

  • 2 weeks now since radiotherapy and skin still dark red and sore, hoping it will calm down soon. The dressing is difficult to keep in place as it is a foam gel. I am on Anastrazole, one a day. I take it in the evening before bed and don't seem to have any side effects so far. Doctors seem very concerned about bone loss, I have a Bisposphonate intravenous in July and am having a bone scan. I haven't had any aching bones or symptoms so hoping this is just a check. I was advised to see dentist too, but my dentist is only seeing emergencies so that will have to wait, A friend of mine had bone jaw loss and an op caused by the hormone medication so worth doing. And so it goes on.....another friend has had letter about vulnerable people like us being released from Lockdown end of July. The timing is good as I should be fit and healthy by then with an inch of hair!
Sorry about your sore back, mention any concerns to your team. I had a lovely call yesterday from the breast nurses and I was able to go over all my treatment and concerns right from when I first saw them at the beginning of diagnosis and they will be there at the end to fit a prothesis for me. Such caring  nurses and they talked about fear of cancer returning and help they can give so you not alone when treatment ends.
We are lucky to have the NHS, I was horrified to read that many people are about to sue the NHS for delayed operations, they have had to prioritise in these times.

Take care and keep busy, thank you for replying to me.
