PICC line query

Hi, my veins are beginning to be tricky for chemo, blood tests etc. At my recent third chemo treatment the nurse suggested I may need a PICC line and offered to give me some information about it but then she left the ward and although I've read up about it, I m not sure where to go from here? Do I just wait to see what happens when I go for my blood test and treatment or should I mention this to someone beforehand? I'm not at all sure the nurse will have mentioned this to anyone or recorded it anywhere so I'm not sure what to do. It usually takes at least 2 or 3 attempts before they can insert a cannula or take blood and me arm and hand is now pretty tender and 'veiny' and I've had a node clearance on my left arm so only the right arm can really be used.

Any advice would be welcome

Thanks

  • Hiya it makes it a lot easier to get bloods and give chemo if you have a picc, most of the time you don't take much notice of it although when 1st when in for my chemo chat nurse was like you having a picc line I didn't even know what it was let alone did I want one and I must confess I had a little moment thinking God not another thing screaming cancer at me but got used to it , only problem I have is I seem to have a reaction to the dressings, you get a shower sleeve on prescription from your doctor xx
