Mastectomy infection

Hi all

I had a mastectomy in December and now it is infected!?! I don't understand how this has happened as thought it had healed. It never looked attractive before but not now is really unattractive. I also have lumps on the unaffected side which are visible. Just would love a year with no cancer after it all started back in 2018. Just worried and fed up. Don't know if this has happened to anyone else? Seeing my team Tuesday about the lumps.

  • Hello Loola1208,

I hope your appointment with your medical team today goes well and that you get those lumps checked out. It is worth mentioning to them too that you think you have an infection - do show the infection site to them if you can so they can have a proper look. I can completely understand why you are feeling worried and fed up and I hope you will get to talk to others here who have been in a similar situation before.

I hope you will hear from others here to whom this has happened before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Our nurses are also just a free phone call away if you wish to talk things through with them. The number to ring is 0808 800 4040 and their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope your appointment today goes well and that you get some answers - keep us updated if you get a chance!

    Best wishes,

unfortunately they found a lump I hadn't and think that the infection is related to it. They said to prepare for the worst as they think it's back or now inflammatory. Don't know what to do/say really. Can't tell my kids it's back shay. Sadly I think I might have to
