12 wks scan post treatment

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in Feb 2020.

I finished 6 wks of chemo, radiotherapy and brachy, 7 wks ago.

I always had clear smear tests, one borderline so had a colposcopy, this was clear and then 5 months later another smear done due to bleeding, again clear then a 5.2cm tumour was found at the same time my smear came back clear. Still had no explanation as to how this happened and how it was missed, other than might have been because of the position of the tumour.

I was staged at 1b2 (or 1b3 if using the new proposed scale). No spread at last scan.

I have a scan In 5 wks, at 12 wks post treatment.

I have two questions, the first, is what should I expect at my 12 wk scan, should I expect to see no cancer or a smaller tumour? Is 12 wks too early to expect to be cancer free?

My second is, did anyone develop a pain in their side where I imagine an ovary to be, that goes right through their body to their back? Didn't think much of it when I had my phone consultation but now it's nearly every day I feel it and it's getting sorer.

Many thanks for reading, sorry for such a long post.

  • Hopefully some of our members who have been on this cancer journey will share their experiences with you soon Nic but our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to discuss this with them as well. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope your scan goes well when the time comes and the pain you're currently experiencing starts to lessen soon.
