Stage 4 CUP life expectancy with chemotherapy

Hi,

My mother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 (liver and lungs) cancer of unknown primary in March. She is currently undergoing her first round of chemotherapy (two different lots). Between diagnosis and treatment her lymph nodes have become swollen and sore (under her left armpit and on her privates).

Her life expectancy was never discussed but we know the treatment is just to prolong her life as much as possible.

Can anyone tell me what the statistics are please for someone in this position?

Thank you

  • Hi Elaine,

Firstly I'm very sorry to read about your mother in law. I hope you're all getting on OK although I can imagine this must be incredibly difficult.

Unfortunately no-one here will be able to advise on this; it's only your mother in law's doctor or specialist who can do this. It's always best to get tailored, specific information from them too as general statistics may not be relevant to the individual person. So do discuss with the specialist if you can, so that you can be as informed as possible about what to potentially expect.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
