Shielding and childcare

I started chemo after lockdown and have a yr6 child who, while lovely and mature, struggles to be self sufficient. We do have some good days but I'm often exhausted and he's often frustrated so there's lots of emotions running high.

Should I be sending him to school, even if 2 days a week? My consultant has said it's up to me.

I've not encountered anyone else in this situation. Would greatly appreciate your wisdom and thoughts on this.

  • Hello Ju32

I'm sorry to hear that you've started treatment since lockdown started. I'm sure that it's been a difficult time for you both.

It's a difficult situation you find yourself in regarding the decision for your son. To a degree it's sometimes easier if the Consultant had made the choice for you. You might find it helpful to have a read through this information on the governement website.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our team of nurses then you're welcome to call them. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope that the rest of your treatment goes smoothly.

    Best wishes,
