Mastectomy scar

Hi all

im 39 and was diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer in 2018. Had lumpectomy/chemo/radiotherapy. It returned just before Christmas last year. I had a total mastectomy just before Christmas. Since then my scar has been inflamed/swollen with a rash above. I can't bear to look at it and don't want my husband to look at me.
has anyone else gone through this?

 Thanks

  • Hi

mine was day surgery but I think all hospitals are different. Good luck I'm sure you'll be fine xx

  • Hi there,

Oh how I sympathise with you. My cancer was Grade 2 IDC  and was in 2 lymph nodes underarm.  I had a masectomy in December 2019 and since then have been battling with chemo and now radiotherapy to my chest wall. My chest is red from my neck to my ribs and the skin is breaking, it's so sore. The scar too has become tight and lumpy in places, I can't bear my partner to look at me. And my hair has only grown half an inch! This cancer has a way of knocking you down but hey things will improve, at least we are still on the planet!
Wishing you all the best , your scar should be settling down by now, I hope the doctors will sort it out for you.
Have you thought about reconstruction? I don't think I could face it for quite a while but if it improves my appearance maybe one day?
