How long to wait for radiotherapy for breast cancer

Hi Guys,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer grade 2 ER+ in Feb. I had a lumpectomy in early March, unfortunalely my margin was not clear and had a cavity shave at the begining of April. My margins are now clear -Yay! - and my consultant has refered me to an oncologist for radiotherapy after their MTD meeting.

I wondered how long I will have to wait to see the oncologist and what the wait for radiotherapy is?

Also i have heard that the radiotherapy is now a larger doss over a week insteed of lower dose over three weeks anyone had this approach?

Thanks

    Hi Gabster,

You will usually get radiotherapy when your breast has healed after your surgery. However, with the current pandemic, protocols have changed. Some hospitals are not offering any chemo or radiotherapy for 12 weeks. Chemo reduces your immunity and, this could be a problem with Covid 19. Other units are still offering these treatments, but there can be a longer wait to get them.

I have heard of people getting a larger dose over a shorter period. The best people to answer your question are your care team. Why not phone your breast care nurse for advice?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
