Hi there, ok that's me learning something new with different treatment/diagnosis. I had the radical hysterectomy as I was stage 2 grade 3 with spread to my cervix. I was meant to have 6 chemos but only managed one as iti gave me renal damage. So radiotherapy is my next treatment and yes I'm having brachytherapy as well after that x
How strange how they treat different stages the same way. My friend was stage 1a1 and she had a radical hysterectomy last year. Tbh I was hoping for the same. One operation and get it all out.
I'm not looking forward to chemo tomorrow. Such a long day and not allowed anyone with me to chat to. But I've got a good book to read. Was it cisplatin you had? X
Chemo is a thought but for most it is fine. I understand that the chemo suites are much quieter now but its useful to take book/mags, music, snacks, or you might manage a wee nap! Mine was meant to be 6 hours but because I had a bad reaction and had to wait before continuing I was there from 1000-1930! The plan was to continue chemo but my bloods (kidney function) never recovered. Mine was carboplatin/paclitaxel. Consultant said there was nothing else he could give me chemo-wise. So has been bit oif a delay with covid, but radio starts tomorrow. I understand that you dont feel anything but I am really worried about late side effects as have heard some horror stories. But I see it as one step closer to finishing treatment so it has to be done. Are you having radio first then chemo? Will be quite a day but do-able. Hope it all goes well and hope we can keep in touch to see how we are progressing, where abouts in the country are you? x
Such a shame the chemo did that to you! I'm having them at the same time. Tomorrow I go to chemo and then straight to radio after. I am hoping I will fall asleep to pass the time
I live in Bedfordshire.
Yes the long term effects of pelvic radiotherapy don't make for great reading. I'm hoping being young(ish) and fit and healthy will keep some of them at bay. Fingers crossed. Also the me menopause thing is annoying. But there is always HRT!
Hope all goes well for you tomorrow. And defiantly let's keep in touch! X
Hi Silverdays, hope you are well. How did it go today at the hospital with the radiotheapy? x
Hi Catswhiskers,
How's the pelvic radiotherapy going? I also heard the horrible side effects possible. Must admit quite relieved it was postponed for now.
I was due to have it but it was postponed. I also had endometrial cancer. Hysterectomy supposed to clear everything which it did. But because LVSI caused it to spread to ovaries they worried it had gone further. Luckily I was able to have 5 sessions of chemo before Covid. Sorry to hear about your experience.
Let me know how it goes..
Hi there, thanks for your message. Oh thats great you managed to get five chemos. Was it carbo/taxol? Do you think you are having any more chemo or going straight to radiotherapy? My sessions started on Tuesday so have had four and its been fine. The actual treatment lasts just minutes, the rest of the time is spent getting on the table and getting lined up but literally in and out in 10-15 minutes. Have felt fine so far, but I believe side effects will start to kick in weeks 2/3. When does your start, do you know? I am so glad I found this website. There is something so comforting about sharing experiences where complete strangers feel like friends. If you have any more questions I am happy to help x
Hi,
Oh good, I'm glad the sessions are trouble free. What's it like dealing with the bowel and bladder situation? Did they tattoo you? When they describe that it sounds like the sort of tattoo a teenager would give themselves.
Yes, carbo/taxel. My consultant said 4 sessions were sufficient so that's the end of that. Am being reviewed on 19th May. If Covid is still rife they will move on and judge by regular scans. Looking at lump node size etc. Hard to say what's best.
I agree. It's invaluable. Where else would you find another you?
Hi Potterylady, how are you? Yes, its fine so far although I was worried about diarrhoea but it seems I might be constipated!!!! been feeling fine apart from tiredness but I am getting up much earlier than normal to attend the hospital so maybe itis down to that! I think next week will be more telling! At the planning meeting they scan your pelvis and mark your skin and adjust you on the bed then the tatoos are just 3 tiny pinpricks on your skin which is their guide to give the radiotherapy. So far so good although I have just had tea and can safely say I am shattered so no big Friday night for me! Hope you have a good evening. Take care.
Hi Catswhiskers,
Oh no sorry to hear that. I've been there many a time. It's awful. These are the sort of day to day symptoms that are hard to bear. I hope you manage to get on top of it with the many laxatives they prescribe. I hope you are able to rest as much as possible. Let me know how next week goes?
