Radiotherapy with breast cancer pain in lungs

Hi

Does anyone get pain in the lungs from readiotherapy? It feels like the beginning of a very painful bronchitis. But there aren't any respiratory symptoms, or cough or any other signs of a bacterial infection. Just the pain. It's pretty constant.

Would be good to hear if anyone else gets the smae, thanks.

  • Hello Jarri

I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with some side effects of the radiotherapy. It's not uncommon to get aches and pains during and after treatment.

Have you spoken to your team about things? If not them do let them know what you're experiencing so that they can check things.

If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm).

I hope things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn

Thanks for getting back. I did speak to a member of the team, who said that it is quite rare for radiotherapy to cause the type of pain I'm having (which feels like pneumonia or bronchitis pain). They suggested that it could be discomfort from the couch, but the couch isn't uncomfortable and I can do my usual pilates and walk home from the hospital without pain. Anyway, I've had it for a week and will give it another week. If it is still there, I'll call my specialist breast nurse.

Thanks very much and I hope you are staying well.
