Hi All,

I was diagnosed with a primary liver tumour 6 weeks ago and within days had a major op-liver resction, just about the time the whole Covid 19 blew up.

As such I have not been able to have real time follow up-just telephone consults.

I should be starting Chemo with Capecytabine very soon but as my Oncology appointment has also been moved to a telephone consult-i dont feel certain about anything ( probably like most people on here).

I have a number of pets, -dogs , horses and sheep and wonder if I will be allowed to go near them whilst on treatment.

Wondering if anyone has been on this therapy in similiar circumstances/

    Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you're getting on OK with everything - I know things are that much harder at the moment with everything that's going on.

    Try to note down any questions about your treatment or next steps, and make the most of each telephone appointment to fully discuss everything. It's of course important that you're as informed as possible so do ask any questions you have during your appointment.

    Meanwhile if anyone here has similar experience to share then hopefully they'll be along soon. Do also browse the site for any other relevant discussions.

    Hello,

            good to hear you are through surgery and heading for chemo.l had bowel and liver resection followed by capecetiban.l worked daily with my horses,cattle and sheep throughout and was encouraged to do so by my cancer care team who viewed it as a positive complimentary recovery therapy.

     l have to say in hindsight that it really did pull me throughand led to a far better recovery than l ever could have originally envisaged.Important to manage the absolute exhaustion,but foraying out to feed and bed cattle for a few hours was followed by staggering back home collapsing into bed.l suffered from neuropathy of the feet badly so this did not help moving about,but stubborn perseverance has a lot to commend it in trying circumstances.When your Animals come first,it provides a compelling reason to keep going day after day

    Hope it goes well for you and you are able to cope with the essential chemo,

    Thank you so much for your reply.

    That gives me hope as although I realise vigorous activities such as riding, driving the ponies are out for some time( just the thought of bunping around on a pony is exhausting)- the thought of not being able to go up to the animals for six months was pretty depressing.

    i was supposedto start the treatment  yesterday but the appointment was postponed till next week so waiting to hear what they decide then.

    its almost 6 weeks since i had the liver resection andi had no idea that it would take so long to recover and i would need so many pain killers but if it does the trick then its so worth it.

    Having been whisked out after the op quickly dueto covidin the hospital and many of the specialist nurses beingoff orself isolating it is hard to get much info about what to expect.

    i feel encouraged by your words.
