Stage 4 Triple negative breast cancer

Hi all my wife has just been diagnosed with stage 4 TNBC which has unfortunately spread to her lungs.
on a posotive note we have caught it early so only one small tumor in her lungs.
I am so confused reading online and speaking to some doctors they say her long term chances are not very good.
i have not told her yet the truth all she knows is that this is going to be removed and hopefully we wont hear of this dreaded disease again.
Does anyone have any long term positive stories of survival with TNBC stage 4 ? Or is it all basically doom and gloom?
Also any advice on how and if i should break the news to her if is better for now to show positivity?

  • Just rest assured that your cancer team will do everything to treat your wife. I have had surgery and am now going through chemotherapy followed by radiotherapy and the drugs and treatment are well advanced. Try not to Google  too much, just the cancer research, McMillan the good ones. It's a worrying time for you, my partner has been so supportive and that's all you can do for her.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Yes i know they are doung everything

we have been through this journey already when she was originally dioagnosed on 2018 with TNBC that was only in her breast and after chemo and surgery it was removed

But now the beast is back in her lung and its prettg terrifying !! Having all these thoughts especially with 3 young children at home. But i guess we will just have to take scan by scan as it goes  and  look at the positives.

But right now i am having pretty dark thoughts !

  • Oh I am sorry you have already been through this, lets hope that treatment will keep her well.

3 young children to keep you distracted. Virus as well to just add to the worry.

    Stay strong.

  • My mother has stage 4 TNBC she has been first diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer 4 years ago, it was removed completely after both surgery and chemo. But it came back in her lungs then in her brain, it started spreading quite fast, and on top of it she lost soo much weight. The doctors started doing radiotherapy and it removed all the cancer from her brain and 50% from her lungs but I have just learned today for my father that the beast is growing again in new places !! It is actually soo hard dealing with this especially that my parents live in a different country and I haven’t been able to visit them for a year now due to covid. My mom is in the hospital, I want to visit her but I am so scared to take the risk to travel and end up bringing covid home. My father has been taking care of her all these years although he is tired. I want to go home and help but I am scared.

  • My mum has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer (tnbc). Her cancer has spread to her chest wall, both left and right axilla, two mets on left lung and brain mets too (biggest leision 2cm and rest of the 5 leisions are smaller). How many mets did your mum have on the brain? Also,  did she have whole brain radiotherapy if yes how effective was this treatment?
look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi Everyone,

I know this chat is a bit old but hoping Husbandofwife or some of the other posters might come back and post again.

Someone very, very close to me has recently received a stage 4 TNBC diagnosis....two small tumours on her lungs. She's mid seventies and in otherwise really good health.

I've committed the cardinal sin of researching her diagnosis on Google and am sick with worry as a result. I know this is the most aggressive type of BC with limited treatment options compared to other BCs.

We've just embarked on oral chemo and radiation but I know the long term prognosis is very poor (12% five year survival rate).

I guess I was wondering how the posters in this thread are getting on and if you have any advice for the journey ahead? There are so few positive stories for this type of cancer.

Thanks for reading all and I truly hope you and your loved ones are doing well.

  • Hi mum love 123,

My mum has been diagnosed with the same - and is similar age and in good health. Please could you let me know how your friend is getting on? I've terrified myself reading google for hours.

    Many thanks,

    Kara
