Food intolerance after treatment?

Bit unusual but I was just wondering if anyone developed a food intolerance after treatment? Since finishing my radiotherapy my body can't seem to tolerate dairy anymore where as I had always been fine before.

thanks x

  • Hi Lila

I have been on 3 weekly cycles of chemo combo treatment for over a year & not long into my treatment I developed an intolerance to lactose. I found there are plenty of alternatives & as I love cheese & milk I have all lactose free foods now.

  • Thank you for your reply I thought I was going mad! I only realised it was dairy products when I started to eat a bit healthier and the symptoms eased. I had one pizza and I was in agony again. At least now I can avoid it. I know from my friends allergy that all vegan food is dairy free so at least having so many alternatives available is good. X

  • What symptoms do you get if you eat dairy products? I'm wondering if I might be lactose intolerant. Certainly milk tastes awful.

  • For me it's severe bloating, pain, cramps, flatulence & diarrhoea.

  • I don't have that, mine is just constant nausea that comes and goes, so maybe just the chemo drugs. Milk tastes awful.

    Thanks

  • Hey I've had no change in taste just the same symptoms as Anveron. I do know that chemotherapy can affect your tastebuds so it could possibly be that x

  • Bit late to the party but only just seen this!

Yes, I have the same thing.  Had the usual diarrhoea, stomach pain, bloating all through chemo, then all through Herceptin.  Continued after treatment had finished.  After about 12 months of still having stomach issues after treatment had all finished I decided to try cutting dairy.  Felt great for it, no bloating, no diarrhoea, no nausea and energy levels were so much better too.  I've been dairy free for about 18 months now and the only time I have stomach issues is when I slip up and don't read labelling properly or if I think I'll just risk a chocolate bar I'm sure it will be fine... no, big mistake lol

I mentioned to my onco last year that it seems that I'm lactose intolerant after treatment, he said it's not common but isn't unheard of and if I feel better symptom wise for being dairy free then that's great, just said to make sure I'm still getting all the nutrients I need from other food or supplements
