new to the forum today 23 jan 2020

i'm, 'christof'' i was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2013. 2/12/13 surgery they removed among other parts of the bowel my RECTUM. in 2014 they tried oxiplatin with the 5 pink tablets - every 3rd week i would end up back in a&e oncologist wanted me to have 8 sessions somehow i managed 4 and told him i just could'nt manage anymore. i've had 3x12 sessions of folfiri in chemo unit and gone home with pump with flouricil for 48 hours. cancer went into lung and i had surgery to remove a little nodule from left lung in 2014. position now is it;s moved on into liver. wednesday 15th i had a go on oxiplatin again (ended up in a&e yet again overnight) and not looking forward to the next poxyoxy on 29th.

my big problem is life without a rectum - i have somtimes 3 accidents a day. stomach wakes me early i sit on toilet strain and push and get a couple of small stools go back to bed and 5 mins later back on toilet (this might go on 4/5 times) later out it comes without me feeling a thing in my pants and these 'accidents' can happen 2/3 times a day, some days i'm constipated (oh what relief)

surely i'm not the only person who suffers like this? i'd love to know if others are in the same boat and what they do about it

any comments would be much appreciated. thankyou.

  • Hello christof,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. Thank you for sharing your story. You certainly have been through so much since your diagnosis now over 6 years ago and I am so sorry to hear that having had your rectum removed has had such consequences. I hope that you will hear from others here who have also suffered similar issues after rectum removal and that they will share with you some tips that may have helped them cope on a daily basis.

Our cancer nurses are also available on this free number 0808 800 4040 and you can ring them Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm if you wanted to talk to them about this and see whether they have any suggestions for you.

We're all here for you Christof anytime you want to talk to others who are in the same boat and understand what you are going through.

    Best wishes,
