Hi. I am currently having chemo for breast cancer. I lost my hair around cycle 2 but since cycle 5 (of8) it's been growing back. I asked the nurse and oncologist and they both said it is rare. I was wondering if anyone else has had this.

Hi Sueque1,
Welcome to Cancer Chat. I hope you're getting on OK at the moment with everything.
It sounds like the hair growth is a positive, although I can understand you're keen to know more about it.
If anyone here has similar experience then hopefully they'll be along soon - my reply here will boost your post so more people will see it.
Wishing you all the best,
Ben

Hi there [@Sueque1]
I've been having chemotherapy for Hodgkin's lymphoma, so a different cancer type to you, however the drugs used also are associated with hair loss.
When I first started the chemo my hair fell out quite quickly; although I was never bald it was extremely patchy and my hair line receded about 2 inches!
However after about 4 months of treatment when my fatigue was too much for me to even bother having someone buzz the remaining few patches I had, I realized it was growing back.
For the rest of the treatment lots of areas have grown back. It's definitely sparse and patchy, so I have kept it all buzzed down to a grade 1 just to make it easier to wear wigs and manage, but left to it's own devices it's definitely growing. Its been weeks since I found any hair on my pillow or shower or sink.
I asked my consultant if that meant anything and he just said sometimes the hair follicles that are initially damaged or shocked by the chemotherapy manage to keep going. I was more interested if it meant treatment wasn't working and he said it has no indication of if treatment is working or not working at all. So for now I just have to deal with the strange regrowth!
I'm thinking I will keep it all fairly short and keep buzzing it for a while to allow the slower follicles to catch up and to give it a shot at being one length.
Hope this helps, i realize it doesn't provide much in the way of answers but know you're not on your own!
Best wishes
Rose

i hope your ok and thank you for your reply. Sorry to hear about hair and lashes. Did you loose all your hair. ? Lashes well you can go to a larger boots store. There's a new c lash out for cancer patients. No clue just a self adhesive. The lady will teach you and out then on.
are you still having chemo ?
I start my first one this coming Wednesday so nervous any advice I'll be grateful I hate wigs as well got some
hats once all over I'll get extensions
xx Babita
Thankyou take it day by day I've lost my hair twice now. First time I was bald I got up middle of night to go bathroom saw myself in a mirror and frightened myself lok did bother me but I'm still here and that's what matters I guess we are all different my chemo has landed me in hospital a few times with sepsis but keep an eye on your temperature and ask when your white cell are likely to be low and dont put yourself in places where there is more chance of catching something keep a journal its handy to look at and say oh after chemo I felt like this or I was really tired and and day 3then you have an idea what to expect and can plan around it. My daughter invited me to a party but as I knew my cell count would be at its lowest around then told her sorry I dont want to take any chances if some has a cold then I'm more at risk everyone understood put you and your health first maybe you'll be lucky and not loose hair but look on the bright side not having to shave your legs lol take care of yourself I'm sure you'll be fine and chemo nurses are really nice x
