Worried about my wife

Hi there

last may my wife was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma multiform. She had surgery on the 10th June to remove as much as they could and all went well as the surgeon managed to remove all of the tumour apart from a root which was too buried to get to.  She underwent 6 weeks of radiotherapy and has just finished her 4th round of chemo with the usual side effects of lack of appetite and nausea. She had an MRI in December which showed a slight change in her brain but the hospital think it's due to the radiotherapy and not the tumour growing back which is brilliant news. But this past week she has felt incredibly weak in her legs so much so she can't stand for very long. I just wondered if this was normal due to the chemo? She has been using a wheelchair when going out for the day coz she tires very easy. I've read on numerous sites it is normal but can't help but worry.
thanks in advance.

Forgot to say she is barely eating which doesn't help really.

  • Hello, just to reassure you it is normal.  The chemo affects everything and your muscles hurt and you apparently don't get enough oxygenated blood flowing through so you feel like your dragging lead weights around.  She needs plenty of fluids and let her eat what she feels like, I just bought lots of little treats for my husband and made him eat when he was awake!  He slept up to 18 hours a day after the fourth round and I just made sure he was warm and comfortable and left him to sleep.  Post again if you're worried, what a lovely husband she has.  Best wishes, Carol

  • Thank you so much for your reply it's made me feel loads better x I've bought her some meritene milkshakes from boots which have lots of nutrients in so I'm hoping this helps her. She drinks plenty of water throughout the day but I've bought some lucozade too just for some glucose to help with energy. Hope your husbands doing alright.
    thanks
