Paclitaxel

Hi . I've just finished 4 cycles of EC over the last 3 months and had my 1st cycle of paclitaxel last Friday . I was advised by my oncologist and specialist nurses it's much easier to manage that the double EC treatment .  I was relieved as i'd had lots of nausea and vomiting with the EC and a 13kg weight loss .  However since having pax on Friday I've had painful joints , ankles , knees , wrists etc . I'm taking ibuprofen and paracetamol but not helping a great deal . It's really quite painful . I have 11 more cycles of this to get through as I'm in 6 months of chemo pre double mastectomy for grade 3 triple negative breast cancer .  It states clearly that unfortunately it's a side effect but has anyone Found anything else that helps the pain ? Or experienced it? I'm hoping it's not going to get progressively worse !

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Nicola, I've just finished 6 rounds of Paclitaxel & Carboplatin combined.  I had really achy joints after the first round so my oncologist prescribed stronger painkillers.  I actually never took the painkillers as the pain became less severe after each treatment.  Hopefully you'll find it gets easier too, but it's worth mentioning to your Dr so you have some good painkillers ready if you need them next time.

Hope all goes well next time x
