Hi there,
I had a pneumonectomy 4 weeks ago and am recovering well. There is a thread about it where I shared my experiences with lobectomy patients. If you search VATS lobectomy you will find it. I had a thoracotomy.
I'm happy to try and answer any questions you have.
All the best

Thank yhou for your reply, I have my op tomorrow , monday 13th , had cancer of the breast 20 years ago but thankfully this isnt a secondary and im told its small ,i'm not that worried about it , just that im an active person and i have real problems when it comes to being patient with recovery . Sounds as though your op was probably more complicated than mine and if you are making a good recovery after 4 weeks then i dont feel so anxious about it .what did you find to be the worst part ?
what hospital were you at ?
Hi
I am out and about walking and shopping and able to attend social gatherings etc and I am totally off all pain relief now, unless I wake in the night with a muscular ache. .see below. My operation was a bigger one, so you should be fine.
The worst parts for me were the constipation caused by the pain relief and the jittery feelings of discomfort from coming off the pain relief. It took a couple of days to get that sorted out. Having said that, I had an epidural for a few days which had to be gradually reduced before stopping and I doubt you will need that. It is annoying not being able to move about freely in your sleep..I get back ache on the wound side from sleeping on my back but other positions squash my wounds. Again, this will probably be less severe and shorter lived for you.
I think we are not allowed to give the names of hospitals on this site!
All the very best for your operation.
