Masectomy

Saw my Consultant on Monday about the red rash on my masectomy scar. My GP gave me had given me previously a weeks course of antibiotics but it didnt help. I now have a double dose of antibiotics, Paracetemol and Ibuprofen. I believe the red rash is cellulitus, a skin infection. I do hope it clears up soon as I dont want to delay my chemo treatment as keen to get it over with!. The fluid retention had subsided, but the Consultant still managed to drain 3 vials from my breast, so its more comfortable now.

The painful shoulder and neck was probably due to lifting on my surgery side, so I must be more careful not to lift any heavy items.

    Hi Silverdays,

I'm glad to hear that your consultant has stepped up your course of antibiotics and I sincerely hope that this heals everything up quickly for you. When are you due to start chemo? I can fully understand why you are keen to get it behind you, and don't want to delay it any further. I had to have my breasts drained a few times after my bilateral mastectomy and, boy, the relief I got each time was just heaven.

You need to be very careful not to do any heavy lifting and to do your exercises regularly. Do you have to see the consultant again soon, or does he feel that this dose of antibiotics will do the trick for you?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for your reply, the consultant thinks this dose should clear up the infection, I have appointment with oncologist on 21st Jan, so chemo treatment will start after that. It seems to go on forever the waiting! And then radiotherapy after the chemo, these cancer cells take some beating.....

    Hi Silver,

Good, I'm glad to hear that your consultant expects this dose to do the trick for you. Yes, the waiting seems to go on forever, but you'll be so busy once your chemo starts that the time will fly past. You'll lose the next few months in treatment, but that's a small price to pay for beating this.

Don't look too far ahead. Take it one day at a time and you'll soon get through it.

Please keep us updated. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
