Letrazole side effects

i sailed through lumpectomy in August followed by radiotherapy which finished in December which also went fine.  Been taking Letrazole since 21 December and that too seems fine so far except I am having sleep problems.  Can't get to sleep for hours.   I am relaxed, warm and tired but just can't get to sleep.  Consequently I sleep until late in the morning (good job I am retired).  I don't want to only have a half day and want life to get back to normal.  Anyone else feel like this and if so any suggestions.  Otherwise I feel fine.  Going to start keep fit class next week - if I wake up in time as it starts at 10.30!

  • Hi Pandy,

Being unable to sleep could be a side effect of Letrozole, although it's quite a rare one. I advise that you speak to your doctor, they may be able to prescribe something to help. The fitness classes are a nice thing to do though, it might help regulate your sleep pattern.

    Hope that helps,

  • Hi Pandy,

I had a lumpectomy, then radiation and then started hormone treatment but mine was a similar one, Anastrozole.  It was a difficult medication but I have got used to it.  I recently went to the GP because of  Anastrozole aches and pains and not being able to sleep.  I didn't really want to go the sleeping pill route.  My GP has prescribed 10mg Amitriptyline - it is a very low dose.  However, I felt soooo tired the next day.  What I did was (I know you're not supposed to) but I cut it in half and took it at 6 pm.  I did this for a month and then took one table (it's a very low dose) a little later before bed.   I really did persevere with Amitriptyline.  Unlike sleeping tablets or codeine it is not addictive.
