  • Hi,

I am so sorry to hear how the chemo affected you. I have had the same problem with this round of chemo (I had 4 cycles of chemo prior to an operation, and just had my first post-operative chemo cycle which absolutely flawed me, was in A&E yesterday as I just couldn't cope with the nausea and sickness anymore). I felt terrified they perhaps I had been really lucky with my first rounds of chemo and that in fact this is what chemo is 'really

like'... however, the oncologist has reassured me this is NOT to be expected as did the A&E staff who said that turning up to have IV anti-sickness was absolutely the right thing to do- it was 48 hours of terrible sickness and they insinuated not to leave it till I felt so awful next time. Anyway... the oncologist has been great and said we will look at a different anti-emetics regimen when we see him. What we have to go through is terrible enough, I don't think we should just assume that terrible sickness and vomiting is 'to be expected'... there are so many different anti-sickness drugs they can try and it might just be the case of finding the right one. Also, I have to say I wasn't sure at first about going up to A&E last night, but they REALLY worked their magic and were so reassuring that I had not overreacted... so don't be scared to pop up to the hospital if you really can't cope.

As well as what the oncologist can do I am currently reading up online about different ways to manage nausea, even just doing that is lifting my spirits and giving me hope that we can take control of the nausea during our treatment. There seems to be some stuff about vitamin B6 helping control nausea so I'm having a look into that at the moment. Also looking at various products on amazon which might help... Different teas and lozenges to suck, that sort of thing- I am willing to try it all!

Stay strong & definitely speak to your oncologist about anti-sickness meds and hopefully your next rounds will not make you feel as awful.

Wishing you better and all the best with this difficult treatment. X
