Hi I'm living with the after effects of surgery I underwent a total thyroidectomy and had lymph nodes removed approximately 3 years ago I would like to chat with anyone else that had gone through similar to.discuss how the surgery has effected you and how your managing in terms of how it feels around your neck throat head area ??? Mentally I'm doing great as a very positive person but I'm in constant discomfort from my chest up throat often feels tight right eye waters etc etc etc etc etc

  • Hi Jonny and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry about the constant discomfort you've been having since you had your surgery.

I've had a look through the forum and wanted to put you in touch with [@Jodc17]‍ as they had this done at the beginning of the year so hopefully they will pop by to say hello and share their experiences with you once their Christmas festivities have finished.

Our cancer nurses will be back on Friday, and then Monday - Friday next week (except New Year's Day) if you'd like to have a chat with them about this as well. You can contact them on 0808 800 4040 between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas and wonderful New Year.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jonny,

I had full TT and left neck dissection in Jan this year. I can't believe it's been nearly a year already!

I've actually been moaning to my husband today about my throat/neck hurting.  I'm not sure if I'm getting a sore throat or if I'm just getting twinges on left side of scar.

I do get a lot of ear pain but only in left ear. This was the side the cancer was found on thyroid.  I also get neck ache all the time.  One thing I do get a lot of is cramp on left side of neck.  But I only get it when I yawn!

Apart from that I'm ok lol

  • Hi Jonny

I received the same diagnosis yesterday. I am in total shock and feel terrible. Still need to follow up with the surgeon. Mine was found by accident, and there are no lymph nodes swollen so chances are is only localized in the gland. I am 38YO and never expected to have this (I guess no one does).

How is life after the surgery? Did you have voice issues? Can you exercise normally?
