  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat forum Peter although I'm sorry about the problems you're currently having with your stoma.

I'm not sure if you have a stoma nurse but if you do it may be worth getting in touch with them, or someone from your medical team, to discuss this. You can also have a chat with our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get some answers soon and that you hear back from some of our members who have had encountered similar issues with their stomas as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Peter. Sorry to hear about your problems, but main thing is to talk to your stoma nurse. If the stoma is 5 or 6 inches then it sounds like you might have a parastomal hernia, which makes it harder for the bag to stick to it. One thing that does help if it's leaking is to use the small sticky white patches that come with the bags to block the air vent. This keeps a bit of air in the bag and often stops leaking. Other things are to drink loads of fluids and also to chew your food well. Finally, you might want to look at another kind of stoma pouch, but do talk to your nurse - sooner the btter. All best. C
