Spike in PSA 8.5 years Post-Prostatectomy.

Hi,  I had a Robotical Prostatectomy in April 2011 followed by radiation Therapy in 2012.  Due to the Radiation Therapy I  had severe proctitus requiring two blood transfusions in Jan 2015. The proctitus has fortunately ceased and I have been free of any symptoms for the last 3 years.  Unfortunately  I also have Cystitis which has shown no sign of abating.

My PSA has been rising steadily ever since but my last blood test in Novenmber 2019 showed a spike in that it had doubled to 18 in the last year.  I have been in good health for my age, 78, and feel no discomfort other than a recent bloating of the stomach which I have put down to normal gastric occurance.

What are the symptoms of cancerous growth ?.  What can i expect to feel and experiance if a more dire prognosis is on the cards. ?

  • Hello HankyPanky,

A very big welcome to our friendly forum and thank you for explaining your situation in detail. I think it might be worth discussing your symptoms and your worries to your doctor who will be in the best position to tell you more about this. Do mention this recent bloating of the stomach with your doctor or specialist and I would also suggest you share your concerns that your PSA has been rising steadily and whether they think they should look into this more closely and monitor this rise.

I hope you will hear from others here who have been in a similar position and that they will share their experiences with you.

    Best wishes,
