Well what a year. Thyroid ectomy hoping that would close a door. It would seem not,  but only a door to tell me it was secondary cancer and that I may also have cowdens.

it just all seems like such a bad dream that I would like to wake up from now please...

I don't know what to say to ppl and wish ppl would just stop with the dreaded question of are you ok???

what do you tell ppl who ask this or what do you say to those who say omg I'm so sorry

  • Hello Harks

As some of our members here would say - welcome to the club that no one wants to join.
I'm sorry to hear that you're going through such a tough time at the moment. It looks from your profile picture that you're going through this at quite a young age? We know that it often helps to talk to others who are of a similar age so I wanted to share a few links with you.

CLIC Sargent is a community for 16-24 year olds who have or have had cancer. They have an online live chat and facebook support groups as well as practical personal support. You might also want to have a look at the website for Teenage Cancer Trust. They offer support for teenagers and young adults.

I hope that you're able to connect with someone and find the support that you're looking for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for thinking I'm young. I'm actually 39 and feeling much older

  • Ah my apologies [@Harks]‍!

Undoubtedly it's been a really difficult time for you. I'm sure that many of our members here will be able to identify with the feeling of it all being like a bad dream. Particularly at the moment whilst you're still waiting on tests and results it can be very difficult. The not knowing is often very hard and can lead to imagining all sorts. Do you have another appointment arranged or know what the next steps are for you? I hope that you don't have to wait too long.

There's an interesting thread that one of our Moderators started a few years back that you might want to have a read through. I've linked it for you here. Numerous members have added to it over the years and it addresses some of the things that people say and how others have chosen to respond. Hopefully it will help you feel that you're not alone in dealing with this and may even raise a wry smile or a nod of agreement.

Here at Cancer Research UK we do have a team of nurses that you can call to talk to. If you think it would help at any point you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
