Psa has increased 3 years after coming off hormone therapy

Hi

my dad was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 8 years ago. His psa was 60 and he was diagnosed with the most aggressive form. From memory it had broke out and reached a few of the lymph nodes but they were just Inflammed.
He went on the stampede trial with hormone therapy for 3 years and his psa dropped below 1. He then came off the hormone therapy and psa was checked every 12 months. His psa has remained stable for the last couple of years with no treatment but from April to now it has suddenly increased to 10. He is meeting his consultant on tue and due to have a bone scan on wed.

I know that a psa of 10 is very treatable but it's just how quickly it got to 10 that worries me. Hopefully the scans come back clear and he will just go back on the hormone therapy again

has this happened to anyone else?

  • Hi Sally and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I hope your dad's meeting with the consultant went well today. I'm not sure if you went with him but if you did I hope they were able to answer some of the questions you've asked here and managed to put your mind at ease.

Hopefully some of our members who this has happened to will be along soon to share their experiences with you but our cancer nurses are just a phone call away if you'd like to discuss your dad's situation with them. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi sally

yes his meeting went ok as he expected really. They will be putting him back on hormone treatment but only after they have the results of the scan tomorrow and he has another one next week. They haven't ruled out further radiotherapy or chemo depending on the results of the scans. I'm just praying it has remained localised and hasn't spread further .. just the waiting game I guess
