Low residue diet - specific foods

Hi,

I had a bowel resection on Tuesday and have been home since Thursday.  I am now await the results of the biopsy and starting to walk to get some strength back.

The one area I am struggling to understand are all of the options available to me on the low residue diet.  The leaflet I have been given and all the ones I can find online are too generic.  So here are some of my specifics:

Potatoes cooked without skins - does this include roast potatoes and croquettes?

Cheese - I gather I can eat cheese but I have read conflicting views on the strength.  My favourite is extra strong cheddar.  Is that OK or should I go for something more mild?

Drinks - generally I have been sticking to Tea, Squash and Water but what about Sparkling mineral water or fizzy drinks.

I was told by the Doctor that I could have a glass of wine (just one) but haven’t fancied one yet, but what about beer?

If the answer to any of these is no, I’d be interested in when I can start to introduce them

Thanks for all your help!

Pete

  • Hi PeteSid,

I hope you're recovering well from your surgery last week.

I'm afraid that I'm unable to give you any advice on your diet. I'm unsure if you were given contact details for someone at the hospital that you could call for advice but if not you could give our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

    Best wishes,
