Breast cancer

My mum was diagnosed last feb with BC it has broken through the skin and produces fast amounts of gunk and the smell is horrendous. She had radiotherapy but they stopped the treatment after 5 sessions due to severe burning of the skin. Shes currently taking a tablet a day plus calcium tab.

Is there anything that can be done to help the wound to heal, hospital nit saying much just that it might never heal. Feel that as she is 79 they are just leaving her and jyst giving her basic treatment. Ive asked if they would not do a mastecomy but they just say we will wait and see.

Has anyone else had to deal with this with elderly parents

  • Hi Suzie

sorry to hear about your mum. You don’t go into much detail about your mum’s cancer, the ‘tablet’ your mum is on - is it a hormone pill for estrogen positive BC? If so it could be that they are looking to see if this reduces the tumour and allowing for a surgical option. My friends mum is 84 and she was given letrazole, it’s worked so well that the tumour can no longer be seen on a mammogram. With regards to the wound, is your mum being treated by her GP practice nurse, perhaps they could apply dressings that could help?
