Updated - good but puzzling news.

I had an endoscopy in late August which showed a normal-looking oesophagus, stomach and duodenum.

The endoscopy nurse said that if it wasn’t for my medical notes they would’t have realised I was a cancer patient. Another nurse double-checked my name, address and date of birth because the notes said I’d been referred for palliative chemo in 2013 and she thought she’d been given the wrong patient records.

Something very strange has happened to me.

I don’t believe in miracles but I feel so very very lucky.

Best wishes

Dave

  • Hi there, FANTASTIC news!  Well done, big hugs and ENJOY!!

  • Thats excellent. My husband has esophageal cancer too. He has had 3 EOX chemo so far. He has a scan next week to see how things are going. Can I ask if you used any other unconventional treatements other than what are offered by your oncologist?

    Thanks,

    Nicki

  • That is amazing news! Good luck to you!

ive been checking regularly to see if you’d had any results.

im hoping if you can do it so can I!

  • Just EOX, unless you count wine and dog-walking :-)

  • That’s brilliant Dave. Really pleased for you. :)

  • Thanks Dave!! it gives up hope xx

  • That’s really fantastic news! A wonderful story of hope. I’m so pleased for you and your family!

I came across your story in June 2019 when my mum was first diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, it resonated with me as the start of your journey is very similar to hers. She was hopeful that an operation would remove the cancer, however although the cancer hadn’t spread to other organs, it had gone through the oesophageal muscle wall and was wrapped around the aorta so they said an operation was too dangerous and she was given 12 months to live. She is now on a radio/chemo trial in the hope of cure.

I tried to find you tonight, after I read your story, it gave me hope that mum might come out of this ok!

I wanted to get in touch as I’m wondering if you can help.. mums cancer nurse forgot to put her on the list for the support group despite numerous reminders and so she ended up missing the group when they met last week. She’s absolutly devistated. She started Chemo 4 weeks ago and will be going through 5 weeks of radio therapy in 5 weeks time. She really wants to talk to people in a similar situation but doesn’t know where to find them. Would you be happy to have a quick chat with her or do you know anyone going through the same thing that you could put her in touch with? I wouldn’t ask but I know you do some work for cancer research and thought you might be a good place to start.

Thank you for reading my story & sharing yours. It’s so helpful to read it and know your loved one is not alone in their battle.

Sending my very best wishes your way ! To an amazing future!

Your family must be so happy too!

  • Hi Susie,

i’d be happy to chat on here via personal message if that would help?

Most of the support I received came via friends on Cancer Chat, or from friends and family ( cancer is so common these days).

I’m afraid I’ve never really been one for face to face support groups but MacMillan or Maggies should be able to point your Mum in the right direction towards a local service. I also found the chemo circle I went to for my treatment was a good place to chat to people who were almost literally in the same boat.

I hope your Mum’s treatment goes well and that she gets the outcome we all wish for.

    Best wishes

    Dave

  • I saw the oncologist today for the results of last month’s biopsies and an MDT case review. The conclusion of the MDT was that I’m now “probably cancer free”. I’m not sure this has really sunk in yet!

    Thanks for reading!
