Mum awaits mri

Hi there everyone, my lovely mum was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer over 3 years ago now and is doing well after immunotherapy but recently starting getting pain in her side. She has had a ultrasound on her liver and something has been found. Her dr said it’s possibly fatty liver but she has to have an urgent mri now . My mum has been having regular scans though and has been told her Lung cancer is stable and no change. I was wondering if the recent scan my mum had about 6 weeks ago would of shown if the cancer had spread to her liver.?  Is that what the drs are looking for??    We r all very worried. We lost my dad 4 years ago to Bowel cancer and a year later my mum got diagnosed xxx

  • Hi Jane01,

I'm sorry to hear about Mum's recent problem. It's understandable that you're all worried about these new symptoms.

Without knowing what regular scans Mum has been having it's impossible to say if this area for concern would have been picked up on her most recent scan. It may be that that area wasn't included in the scan or that the area has only become a concern due to the pain that Mum has been experiencing. Hopefully she doesn't have to wait too long for the MRI and you'll have some more information about things.

If you'd like to chat through your concerns with one of our nurses then you're welcome to give them a call. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do pop back and let us know how Mum gets on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn , thanks for your reply . My mum has an appointment on Monday so we will see what’s going on then. It’s just so horrible to keep wondering if the scan would of picked it up or not as she’s been having regular ct scans with contrast, which the drs seem happy with her so far. Will just keep our fingers crossed. Thankyou x
