Tablets for 5-10 years after Radiotherapy

Morning everyone on this wet wet morning here,

im off to get my dressings changed today, has it really been 7 days since they took that C out of my right boob...

live been researching the tablets as have been told I will have to take Letrazole, but found that the one with the least side effects is Femara? Any advice or thoughts on this please ?

  • Hi Mary,

Hasnt it just,I think being a woman and others who have been fortunate not to have been through this really don't understand that it carries on after the surgery and the radiotherapy.

My Hubby is being brilliant and doing all the cooking but he's useless at sorting the washing out lol.

Ive now got a problem with my tablets so another battle to sort out....

We have to listen to our bodies and don't feel guilty!!

    love Jackie xxx

  • Yes Jackie people think that you should be fighting fit after radiotherapy has finished but that's simply not the case at all.

My husband too has been fantastic throughout all of this and such a support. We had our 49th wedding anniversary this week, where has the time gone?

Hope you get your tablets sorted. Are you having to change to another. I'm on Anastrazole since September and apart from some hot flushes and achiness not feeling too bad on them.

    Love Mary xx

  • Happy Anniversary to you both ️ ️ ️ That's a lot of years,we have been married 45,but I was a child bride lol.

ive been on Femara which is Letrozole but they have said there are now cheaper generic ones but I want to stay on Femara as they've been fine and I don't want to change incase it flares up my Multiple Sclerosis.... It's all about money at the end of the day but my GP and Oncologist would like me to stay on them but Surrey health have black listed them as they are more expensive.... don't need this after what we've been through.... So it's a fight now.....may write to my MP as don't know who else to turn to..., xxx

  • I too was a child bride Hope you manage to stay on Femara as it is obviously suiting you with the MS. It's crazy to make you change as who knows how it might affect you. As you say, it's all about money these days

  • And here we are still happily married!!!
It's all down to the money and it's a postcode lottery as lots of women can still get them in different parts of the country. I've tried phoning pharmacies to ask which generic brands are the same but they won't tell me!! I feel I'm banging my head against a brick wall.... wish I knew a pharmacist!!

Its false economy if I end up having an MS relapse because then it's hospital and more drugs.

Just getting to feel I won't take anything....it's pulling me down.

  • The time before last when I collected my prescription they were a different brand and I'm sure I had more side effects from them. Don't know whether I can request a particular brand or not.

Lets hope you can get this sorted

    xx

  • Hi Mary,

If you find one that suits you,ask your GP to write it on your repeat prescription which they will do.

Not hopeful and only have 5 tablets left but Oncologist said not taking them for a couple of weeks won't matter....so why are we taking them eh??

  • There's no reason why they shouldn't Mary, keep the box or if you remember the name tell them to put it on your repeat prescription!!

Not long before you can stop taking them lol but where do they get the years from? for some women it's 10 years and others 5!! Or is it guessing....
