Late Reaction to Chemo

It's been about four months since I finished chemo and was going really well.

The last four weeks I've been suffering serious loss of appetite, restless stomach and that bad chemo taste in my mouth.

Can chemo come back to haunt you after this time?

The doctors don't seem too concerned.

  • Hi Julian

I can't remember where I read it but but they reckon you can have side effects recurring or even new ones for up to seven years, it is rare but it can happen, hope yours goes for good soon, I've been off cemo for over 3 years now and again it starts again, but I'm alive thats the main thing good luck.... • After effects-why not call up the helpline for second opinion another professional to chat to-at Macmillians freephone i had a nurse call me back-

  • About a month after this post I had lost consideable weight through not eating properly and was taken to hospital where they X Rayed me and reccomended immediate surgery.

My blood test was good, there was no sign of the cancer returning but my large bowel had "kinked". Apparently this is not unusual up to a year after colon surgery.

After surgical repair I recovered fairly quickly and was soon eating normally, last week I went for tests and was told the was no sign of cancer and I'd put on 8kg in the three months since the last tests.

My next visit is in 4 months and he's reccomended a CT scan in August, two years after the original bowel cancer diagnosis.
