Mop up flot chemo

Hi

I am 7 weeks post surgery for esophageal cancer and have been told my mop up chemo needs to start. I am still recovering from surgery but understand the chemo needs to happen. Has anyone had this type of mop up chemo or any chemo after surgery and if so could you Give me some feedback as someone has told me it is much worse than the first round before surgery .

    Hiya, I had surgery 11th June for breast cancer, due to start Chemotherapy tomorrow, so can't help.

    I find sometimes people say things and are well meaning, but just put your mind in overdrive.

    My chemo nurse told me on Monday everyones journey is different, good luck hopefully it's not as bad as you imagine big squishy Scottish hugs xxx

    Hi Lisa, I was in hospital earlier today, having my first pre-op FLOT for stomach cancer. I got talking to a post-op fella having his second round of FLOT for Oesophagul cancer. He said his main issues are fatigue and some nausea. No worse than the first, pre-op lot though. Hope this helps allay your fears. Good luck and remember, the worst is behind you now - whatever is to come. X

    Thank you for your reply it has really helped my anxiety. You are so right the worse is behind us and the way I'm thinking now is bring it on !!!!!!! The last hurdle and we can get on with our life's. Good luck I hope all goes well for you also xxx

    I was given your link through this site as you have had oesophageal or stomach cancer and have received flot chemo, surgery and post op chemo. Hope everything is good with you and you are now at the end or nearing the end of your treatment.

    My husband is half way through his 4th lot of flot chemo, hopefully moving forward to surgery if his CT scan has shown that the tumour has shrunk. 

    It would be good to hear from you and other people  who has been through this year journey and what we can expect moving forward.

    Sorry to hear your husband and yourself have to go through this horrible journey. My first round of chemo was tough with a lot of sickness but it was very successful and the tumour shrunk a lot.  Surgery went well my op was 10 hours long. I don't remember much about being in intensive care other than the staff were amazing and kept me pain free. After 4 days I moved onto a ward which I found quiet hard as you didn't have the one to one that you have in ICU . I had two drains either side which does restrict your movement so it's a relief when they are removed. I had a feeding tube which really caused no issues . Once home I was very tired and low energy for around 4 weeks tried to go for a short walk everyday . Eating is tough and it is so important to try and eat small and often to prevent you feeling sick . Everyday is different ! Acid reflux is a problem for me especially at night but I find if I eat my last meal by 6pm it's usually not a problem . Keep yourself upright in bed is another tricky thing to do as I wake up and I have moved down the bed. I started feeling a lot stronger after 6 weeks and it was then time to start pre op chemo which unfortunately after the first one it knocked me off my feet and I ended up in hospital quiet poorly that my oncologist decided that know more should be given and the risk  was greater than the benefit.  He made me aware that only 40% of people can have the full 4 cycles of pre op chemo which made me feel better. My life is good I still manage to get out and enjoy things . I'm still working hard on my eating and it is hard as you don't enjoy food like before but I am told I will again once my new body parts settle down . I have met two ladies who both had this op over 8 years ago and have perfectly normal life's and although they eat smaller amounts they can eat anything it just takes time. It is a emotional rollercoaster but this dreadful diesese can be beaten . I have a ct scan on the 2nd to see if it's all gone so all I can do is keep my fingers crossed .     thank you so very much for your message, it has definitely give me some idea of what to expect for him moving forward. Sounds like Trevor has a long and difficult road ahead of him, bless him. 

    I struggle to get him to eat at the moment so sounds like I will have a fight on my hands. He is on an emotional rollercoaster but i am supporting him through his ups and downs.

    good luck for 2nd October, and fingers crossed that he has all gone. Thinking of you and yes let’s keep in touch as I am finding talking to people about it is also helping me to help Trevor.

    Hi Lisa

    Ive just joined this site. My husband has just started 2nd round post op Flot after oesophagectomy. He had 1st one on Tuesday and is now in hospital on a drip as sickness and diarrhoea since. Is this how 2nd round affected you?
