Is worth to do a palliative chemo?

So the oncologist found out my primary lung cancer has spread to my breast.First he said I have lots of treatment options. Now he and his "brilliant"team refused me the surgery, radio and also immunotherapy.I was offered only a chemotherapy.

I understand it's just for me buying few months before I will head to the cemetery.i am only 42 I want more then few months. Is it worth it to do it?

I am really down I don't want to leave the house I want to refuse to eat or drink. Why they don't want to do more for me?

    Hi Denise,

Good for you. You go girl! -  I'm glad to hear that you have decided to go with chemo again.

We've all got to be happy with the choices we make re treatment and, the decision you reach has to be yours and yours alone.

Sadly, you are young to have to face a terminal diagnosis and, I am sure that you feel that you have plenty of life to live yet. I sincerely hope that you get to achieve this.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine for your kind words.

If we are thinking about all our life and everyday is terminal. We don't live forever.I just don't like the fact that some doctors playing Gods well at least mine they do.

  • Hi Denise,

I'm glad you are feeling better on the chemo - my dad has been offered palliative chemo and when I look on this group there are so many horror stories :( hopefully it will help him too.

Good luck with your treatment x

  • Hi Kajena.thank you.I know there are bad stories too but everybody is different keep it in your mind.I don't care what other says or doctors says they are giving up on people too soon.Regarding side effects he needs to drink and eat properly.Me example i don't feel to eat 2 days after chemo but I do force myself.i eat for 30 min but eat.Its important to be strong.

For me I am not considering now it a palliative I believe I am strong and I will make it.i have some plans in my head regarding my treatment

Wishing you and your dad good luck.

  • Hi Denise glad your going for it you have the attitude to fight it, and the cemo to fight it how can you loose,, get chrissis pink boxing gloves on and knock it out of the ring, best wishes... Billy

  • Hi Denise,

    Hope you're well.

I've just come across this post, as my mum was said the exact same thing recently by the doctors, and it appears they are just pushing her aside, due to her stage 4 diagnosis.

Background: My mum has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Bowel cancer. Initially, we were told that they could operate and chemo would be an option. However, at a recent surgeon meeting, the surgeon stated that only palliative care could be offered, with potential palliative chemo.

Were you able to get a second opinion? How did the palliative chemo work for you? Have you been offered any other treatments since your diagnosis in May 2019?

If anyone on here has had similar experiences- please drop me a message, any help is appreciated!

    Kind Regards,

    Sadia

  • Hi I am sorry for your mum but don't give up.if you want i can message you privately. SOON as your diagnosed your mum stage 4 they will kick her aside its true. For me treatment offered was chemotherapy and radiotherapy to the brain which wasn't worked.for many people they offer so many options its not fair.

I asked for referral to another hospital my gp.So you need to call the gp.I hope they can offer me more and better treatment.this hospital its better for cancer.

The so called palliative chemo worked for my lungs and breast from 2019 till okt 2020 and still working but they find out is in my brain in oct 2020 so for that I am taking only chemo pill. They didn't offer me any other option so thats why I am going to another hospital.

I can't name it but I can privately.

    Denise

  • Thank you Billy its horrible this attitude. Treating patients like a rag doll or muppet.i wrote even a complaint why my chemo pill was changed it wasn't even 3 months for taking it.God I wrote words in an e-mail:)

Anyway I am waiting for referral to better hospital i cant take it anymore Mentally they make me so stressed with this uncaring attitude.nobody should suffer this way. They neglected my right hand so I can't use it so at 43 I am disabled.

    Denisa

  • Why? Because you are worth it hun. I have stage 4 kidney cancer, spread and growing in lungs and my treatment not working well so am hopefully starting a clinical trial to try and control the cancer. I have good days and bad days but now I have more good than bad and am positive I am going to live for a long time yet . I am 48 and want to live. Please don't give up on yourself. I struggle with appetite and am only 7 stone now but  I have read quite a few success stories of stage 4 cancer, people living a long time with it, others becoming cancer free in time. There is always hope.

  • Thank you happy days.Thats why I want to change a hospital I am waiting for a referral because here they don't anything for me except chemo.like you I want to go for trial in a new hospital.I didn't loose weight
