Nivolumab - immunotherapy drug

Has anyone gone private for this treatment.  We want to get some idea of the cost implications.

  • Hi

I was lucky to have three cycles of the combined treatment on the NHS. I believe the cost of the Ipilimumab is about £15000 and the Novolumab about £600.

The treatment appears to be working so far for the cancer, but the downside is it has knocked out various glands, so I am now type 1 diabetic and have Addisons.

If you can’t get the treatment on the NHS, be persistent, or ask if there are any trials which might help you.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks for replying.  My husband has been offered a trial but it is a randomised 2:1 with placebo, blind trial.  We are trying to decide whether to fund ourselves as do not want the placebo!  His cancer is mesothelioma and it is not yet adopted by the NHS for this type of cancer.

  • Hi harleyboy hope you don't mind me butting in it's about your addisons, did they put you on fludrocortizone, hydrocortisone, and calcium tablets, I'm just checking I've had addisons for over 13 years my first specialist didn't put me on calcium till it went dangerously low then I had a job getting results back up safe if its low you get brittle bone (osteoporosis), best wishes.
