Had my Nephrectomy on June 12. Started out as laparoscopic, but ended up being open surgery and I had a blood transfusion. Once I was on the ward the pain was unbelievable, 10 times worse than my hysterectomy. Morphine and paracetamol just wasn’t touching it. All the nursing staff kept telling me, was to keep up with the pain medication. I spent a week in hospital and I couldn’t walk and talk at the same time, I was also breathless, whilst at the same time the pain was getting worse. Once I was home it didn’t get any better, the pain was just in one wound above my rib cage, once I started to feel nauseous I knew something wasn’t right. Went to my GP, prescribed antibiotics, went home. Next day I was sat down when all of a sudden I felt something wet dripping down my back. Got my husband to look and it was absolutely disgusting what was oozing from the wound. After another three days in hospital and lots of IV antibiotics I came home, two weeks from coming out I’m still on antibiotics whilst the district nurses are coming out twice daily to change the dressing.
But now I’ve got pain above my belly button up to my ribs. Because I’ve been so focused on the Sepsis I don’t know what pain in other areas is normal after this surgery. In fact I’m so *** off with everything that I don’t know anymore.
sorry for the long post, just wanted a rant. Thanks for reading
