Silicon, DIEP or SIEA for Double Mastectomy ???

Hi

After having only 4 rounds of chemo, my oncologist has stopped it due to severe allergic reaction. I am now going to surgery.

My question now is...  silicon, DIEP or Siea flap !!!!!  I did decide on the immediate silicon  due to me having to have radiotherapy and the whole "it might distort them"... didn't want got through the major ops and then might have to go through it again afterwards...

Now, I have seen a programme on the silicon and I now am having major reservations about them..

Anyone have any advice on this topic please !!!

  • Hello AngryandScared,

I am sorry to hear you had to stop chemotherapy due to a severe allergic reaction - I hope your surgery goes well though and that you manage to make the right decision when it comes to reconstruction. We have detailed information on our website on breast reconstruction and the different types available which you can read here

I hope you will also hear from some of our lovely ladies here who have had breast reconstruction before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. I thought you might also be interested in reading [@sunshine19]‍ 's thread on post op mastectomy and reconstruction

  • Hello Angry and scared

I am sorry to hear you had an  allergic reaction to the chemo  and had to stop.

After you have your operation will you be receiving any treatment? As  if you are they normally advise you not to until after treatment.

I was very lucky i needed no further treatment so had my mastectomy and reconstruction done at the same time. I was only unable to have i DIEP as had enough fat.  The SIEA if that is where they take skin from thigh or stomach  i decided against  that as alot serverer and longer recovery. I have a silcon implant  but wont know for sometime how it turns out  as only had my op on the 8th May.

Good luck with your operation and keep in touch.

    Hugs x
