Possible ovarian cancer ? What would you do ?

I am a breast cancer patient. I had a mastectomy a few weeks ago, am about to start radiotherapy and I'm on hormone therapy too (Zoladex and Exestamane). Micrometastasis in sentinel node but radiotherapy should sort it, so I'm told.

The last maybe 6 - 8 months I've had a dull ache in my lower right abdomen. Haven't really done anything about it, as I guess I thought it was maybe just crampy female type pains.  Lately though I am bloated to the point where clothes aren't fitting me properly. I'm also not eating properly because my appetite has all but gone. I've also developed a degree of urinary incontinence and embarrassingly, a bit of bowel incontinence, although that comes and goes. About a year ago a stranger came up to me randomly and said to me that she strongly felt I had a problem with my right ovary, and was insisting I see a doctor. She made me promise I would. I pretty much chalked her down to being a nutter and thought not much more about it. I didn't go to the doc. Now though, I'm starting to wonder. My mind is working overtime. Is it possible to have breast cancer and ovarian cancer at the same time ? I really don't know. I was contemplating going to the docs but I don't want to sound like a hypochondriac. I know it must be common for cancer patients to run to the docs at the slightest twinge, and I don't want to waste anyones time. Would anyone else ask the doc to rule ovarian cancer out ? I'm all over the place!!

Thanks

  • Hello Mammaof4,

You should have a consultant assigned to you so it's important that you keep them updated on any discomfort you're having. So, yes you should contact them as soon as you can and no you won't be wasting anyone's time, that's what they're there for. There are some side effects to taking Zoladex and Exemestane, which include abdominal pain, but you won't be able to get the bottom this without speaking to your doctor.

I hope this helps and all the best,
