Dying my hair

I'm currently due to have my last chemo on Wednesday. I have been having one of the types where you do NOT loose your hair. My brother's wedding is in two months and I would like to dye my hair to give it some colour and to cover the grey. Can anyone recommend anything I can do.

  • Hi Lucy - many, many years ago I was a hairdresser so I do understand about colouring hair. If I were you & you really want to colour your hair I would recommend that you have it done professionally - best NOT to do it yourself as it can cause scalp & other problems unless you know what you are doing. Choose a hairdresser in your local area who has a good reputation & tell them you have been having chemo & that you want ONLY a semi-permanent colour - one that will wash out over a few weeks. These colours have fewer chemicals & so are less problematic than permanent dyes. Have the colour done as near to the wedding as you can so that it looks fresh & shiny!

Hope this advice helps & that you enjoy your brother's wedding & that all your treatments are successful

    Kind regards

  • My hairdresser said she can colour my hair as close to the root as possible but not touch the scalp or roots. So won't be like pre chemo, but it's better than full on roots.

I'd deffo go to a hairdresser you can trust.

Ive been with mine over 10yrs and she often has dealt with clients who are under going chemo.

Actually she told me her first head to shave was upsetting, but the number of clients with BC over the years she become used to it, and when you read these forums it's unreal how many of us have it!

    Hope it all goes well.

I'm almost ready for cycle two, cold cap means minimal hair loss, but my roots are starting to come in as I'm nearing my hair appointment
