Starting chemo tomorrow

Hello

I have had all of the checks and tests necessary and I start chemo tomorrow morning. I am truly frightened at the thought of the chemo, especially as I have had to read of all the possible side effects.  Some are as frightening as the cancer.  I swing between cancelling the chemo because I convince myself the surgery was enough, but then I think I should have it and worry what damage the chemo will do to me.  I am starting on 4 rounds of EC chemo, three weeks between cycles, followed by 12 weekly infusions of Paclitaxel.

I do know I must have this, but it is so hard when you feel healthy and know that the treatment is likely to make you so unwell.

  • Yeah.....one down.  Just take it easy and be kind to yourself. And if you do get any side effects don’t wait till your next round to get them sorted. I got heartburn and called the gp and got some tablets for it straight away, also mouth ulcers so got some difflam prescribed for that.   Will you lose your hair? Just wondering if you e thought about what you are going to do?

    Keep in touch.

  • Thank you for the advice, especially about getting things from go.

As for my hair, well, I had planned to use the cold cap, but having asked people who have had it and still lost their hair anyway, I decided to shave it all off last week. My terms not the cancer!!!

so now I have very little to lose, it won’t be so traumatic.

I am feeling very upbeat tonight. Very tired though. Xxx

  • Thank you Marlyn

I have been asleep for a couple of hours and am feeling better now. Mainly because I now know what to expect. You are right, it is a huge relief to have got the first one out of the way
