A tad worried

Hi there,I been told today my lumpectomy is in 4 weeks,,only found my lump 3 weeks ago,,having my OP with an overnight stay and unfortunately saying goodbye to my nipple too,,I am having some lymph nodes tested,,I bought comfort bras this morning.

Not sure on the time off after my OP,, i am scared but taking it as it comes and not thinking too far ahead,,trying to be positive,,and smile, and laugh but I just cant get my head around how much is being taken away what it will look like and when I get a nipple,,but I suppose it's only a nipple and if it saves my.life I can have a tattoo,,

Am thinking 2 weeks off work but as a hairdresser holding my arms up and a hairdryer am I hoping for the best, being self employed i am worried about not earning too.

Xx

  • Hello,

i found out two weeks ago about my cancer and am having my lumpectomy tomorrow, things certainly move fast once it starts.

I’ve been advised to take four weeks off, I work in an office so am hoping to go back sooner. I think being a hairdresser you will need to see how you feel, although you don’t want to push it.

I’m sorry you are losing your nipple as well, have they put you in touch with support groups, you may find others who can advise you x

  • Gosh yours is quick,,I went 3 weeks ago and my OP isn't till the 28th June, yes the McMillan nurse was amazing and I have lots of leaflets, being self employed I am worried I be off a while so I need to get my head around seeing if theres anything i can get help with,,.

Please let me know how you get on and the very best of luck hun..lots of love xxxx

  • Thank you, I will do.

I’m sure there must be help you can get money wise if you are self employed, last thing you want to be worrying about is money x

  • Yeah I will enquire, have plenty of leaflets,I will get on it next week xx

    Good luck xx

  • Hi LJloopy, I'm not exactly an experienced cancer patient, but I can't see 2 weeks being enough for either physical or emotional recovery. Obviously you are worried about money - maybe try MacMillan Support Lines to find out gov financial support is available - I'm not an expert but do know we are 'technically' classified as disabled. Think that if you are really struggling there might be grants to help keep you ticking over with heating bills or groceries.
