Breast Cancer Treatment Starts Next Week - Confused

Hi, I know I'm luckier than most and the NHS are fantastic, but I'm confused and it's not helping with the stress. Went for pre- admission today, all OK, but only home and call to say admission brought forward to next week! Was supposed to be mid to late June. I'm OK with that, they assure me prognosis is the same,  but it is the extremes of info you get. Ward nurse talking about admitting me for the entire month of radio; Cancer Nurse telling me I can go back and forth every day for a month "by train". Imagine something between the two extremes is about right to expect, but oh boy does this mess with your head. Only diagnosed on 7th - complete roller-coaster. Be good to hear from anyone but PLEASE don't say anything negative!!!

  • Hi v just noticed what you said about ploppy thought op was today sorry for getting it wrong I'm blaming lack of sleep most nights i get about four hours, it's catching up with me,.

  • Hi Billy, you're not wrong, I'm high in 6 weeks of adrenalin/ pure fear. Probably my post will chime better with ladies; it was genuine and ernest. Hope you get a machine will better night's sleep tonight. VPlum

  • Hello all,

    Lumpectomy all done, bit sore.

sadly I’ve had to stay in hospital, I found out today I suffer from sleep apnea and my kidneys don’t work to full capacity. Came in with Terry the tumour going home with two other things

But otherwise all good, hopefully get home tomorrow x

  • Oh shagsville tennysee, not plain sailing girl! Glad you're still up to posting though. Night night, god bless and good riddance to Terry! ( Mine's called ' the gremlin'). xxx Let us know when you are home. x

  • Hi Ploppy, did they let you out for good behaviour yet. X

  • Hi V,

Through most of my treatment, I preferred to only know the basics of what I was dealing with. I didn't want to read up on it or know all the 'maybes'. I know I broke rules, probably worried too much about fitting in my social life around chemo! But in the end, I trusted them to do what was best for me, although I picked up some coping habits along the way.

Here's the list I put together on one of my blogs

    • Stay Positive
    • Eat healthy although the odd takeaway won’t kill you
    • Make yourself eat no matter how sick you feel it WILL make you feel better
    • Get a good night’s sleep – sleeping tablets help to give your body the rest it needs, a 7-day dose should be plenty
    • Go with it – this isn’t a quick win, take each moment and day as it comes
    • Enjoy sitting in bed watching *** TV – it’s cathartic
    • Encourage visitors….they make the day pass quicker and distract you from the longest dullest days – it doesn’t matter if you can’t recall what they said to you
    • Take time to reflect and work out what this really about for you
    • Take time to enjoy doing nothing
    • Water. Drink lots of water

  • Hi Three and 'everyone else who knows me' - LOL. Since website went wonky over the weekend been madly trying to make contact, happily I seem to be back now! I missed you all and hope you are all doing good. X Somehow managing to keep it together, just about, if truth be told. Any insomniacs out there tonight? VPlum.
