Breast Cancer Treatment Starts Next Week - Confused

Hi, I know I'm luckier than most and the NHS are fantastic, but I'm confused and it's not helping with the stress. Went for pre- admission today, all OK, but only home and call to say admission brought forward to next week! Was supposed to be mid to late June. I'm OK with that, they assure me prognosis is the same,  but it is the extremes of info you get. Ward nurse talking about admitting me for the entire month of radio; Cancer Nurse telling me I can go back and forth every day for a month "by train". Imagine something between the two extremes is about right to expect, but oh boy does this mess with your head. Only diagnosed on 7th - complete roller-coaster. Be good to hear from anyone but PLEASE don't say anything negative!!!

  • Hi v glad your keeping your strength up, have you heard from the brest lassies yet quite a few going through it, they have there own discussion called,, the good and bad,, they talk about any thing and everything, have a look see what you think, remember main thing looking after yourself. God bless.

  • Hi Vplum,

i was diagnosed in the 16th, so just two weeks ago, I’m going in today for the dye injection and then surgery tomorrow. I have been absolutely fine since finding out but I think today will bring home the fact that I do have cancer as my treatment starts. I keep telling myself 8 weeks and the radiotherapy will be done and dusted and hopefully I can go back to normal again.

The NHS are amazing, how quickly things move, I do wonder if my postman thinks I’m having an affair with someone in the NHS from the amount of letters I receive since being diagnosed

Hope all goes well, I know it will and keep in touch x

  • Hi v some people just take it in their stride others panic if you're lucky you seem like the first, I'm like that as well, people i know couldn't understand i just said if i panic what good does it do, best wishes.

Don't forget if you ever want to talk about anything there's always the forum,

  • Hi VPlum, I just wanted to say how wonderfully you seem to be dealing with this at the moment. Keeping your sense of humour and thinking of others - even when you have your own issues to handle - takes huge strength of character.

I really hope that you keep building a strong network around you as it comes in very handy on those dark (and dull) days during treatment.

As for your original question, you do tend to get some mismatched info at times... some med professionals are more optimistic than others! So mentally preparing for each situation can be helpful.

    Wishing you all the best,

  • Hey Billy G, always good to hear from you. Will hook into that 'good and the bad' group though complete technophobe so don't do anything quickly. You have been wonderful. Thank You. Two way street though! - I'm here for you ( and others)  and more than happy to have occasional chat with you as and when you might fancy. Reckon this forum is a wonderful support and we should all make the most if it. HUG and God Bless . X Oh, PS, you wouldn't by any chance have some Wensleydale Cheese about you! LOL x

  • Hiya Ploppy. Good to hear from you. Good luck tomorrow darling; I'm about a week after you on NHS list. Completely agree with how amazing NHS are. But it's still scary and so I think this site is a great way to keep in touch. Great bunch of people on here. Make sure to let us know how you are doing. Big Hug, VPlum X BUT also if you need some support tonight, don't hesitate to post darling x

  • Being a Yorkshire lass also, I reckon I can rustle up a chunk of Wensleydale if the need arose!

  • Hi v afraid not i prefer a good strong blue, wife can't stand it so it's all mine, nearly our dog loves it but she only gets a small piece, like you I've found forum helpful to talk to others. Again best wishes for tomorrow.

  • Hi, '3 Little Words' ;thank you so much for  such a lovely reply.Rollercoaster this last week or so, but so blessed with everyone on here and in my life, overall. I am learning to 'halve' extremes of NHS advice to fit my comfort zone and I honestly don't disrespect any of it, it is all (I know) with my best interests at heart.

    Will check out your website.
