Recovering from Mastectomy

I had my op on Monday to remove my right breast and lymph nodes. It has all happened so quickly and reality is hitting home. I had a very strange feeling in my right breast area like an itching but it’s numb, has anyone else experienced this? Any advice for my mind set? I am really struggling with looking at my removed breast area xx

  • Hi there ...

Well I was really scared to look at my scar where my boob used to be .. and I always had biggish boobs .. I'd seen pics and had to take a deep breath .. confused as to what I'd feel ... well a few days later in the bathroom , l looked down .. ready for anything .. and all that came into my head ..was ... well it's not so bad, and if this means I can still be around to see my granddaughter grow ... it's a price worth paying ...

So I just changed my mind set .. my wonderful surgeon may have taken my boob, but he gave me something far more precious... time ... and I know I wouldn't be here now if I'd left it ... boobs arnt much good, if wer not here ..

Cancer took my boob ... but I kicked it's *** ... please listen to your body now... don't rush getting around .. when it feels tired ... stop .. do your arm exercise if you've been given an exercise sheet .. but never over stretch it .. take care .. chrissie x

  • Thanks Chrissie

Yes I totally agree with what you are saying and it’s getting your mind set into thinking my boob has been taken away because it’s cancerous.

I have 2 children aged 16 and 12 so they definitely keep me going.

I have a good family and friend support network however it’s nice to speak to other women who have experienced similar to me.
