Flot chemo

Hi everyone...I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer last march and after what seemed like a life time of being prodded and poked and different scans I am going to get a picc line fitted on Thursday and then I I can start my chemo rounds. A quick question I have is my oncologist says that the pump part of the chemo will be for 48 hours and I will be having 4 rounds of treatment every 20 days. What I have seen on many sites both here and the us says the pump is for 24 hours and treatment every 15 days? . I know that I am the first person to receive flot at my hospital so they can't be too sure. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Skinns and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry about your diagnosis but I'm glad to see you're finally being able to start your chemo.

I've had a quick look around the forum and found that [@Sonnygirl48]‍ and [@Paulus55]‍ have had this type of chemo as part of their treatment for the same type of cancer so hopefully they'll pop by soon to share their experiences with you. [@Mikeswife]‍ had this as part of their treatment for stomach cancer so they will also be able to give you some idea of what to expect.

You can give our cancer nurses a call about this on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to discuss this with them as well.

I hope you're able to get some clarity on this soon and wish you all the best with your chemo.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Skinns. I had my treatment at a cancer specialist hospital. The flot they gave me was 24 hours of 5 fu, once I had been given  the other two drugs as infusions. I had the flot every two weeks.

Perhaps the protocol has changed, although i doubt it. It is worth looking into. I suggest that you get it checked out.

Good luck with your chemo. (more 5 fu is probabaly better isn’t it).

    Paul.

  • Hi Paul...thanks for the reply. My wife got a text from my upper GI nurse after she as asked about the difference and the nurse contacted my oncologist who said it will be every 15 days for 4 rounds which start tomorrow and the pump I will have to wait to find out tomorrow if it for 24-48 hours. I will be getting 3 in the hospital 1 for a hour and 2 for two hours then the pump. I'm just glad it's starting and I can then deal with the side effects though I'm not looking forward to that part.
