Advanced stomach cancer - pain relief query

hello

Ten months on from diagnosis and I’ve started to feel constant pain in my chest /stomach area. Tramadol 50 has stopped having any effect. My GPS don’t seem to know much about pain relief. Anyone got any suggestions for pain relief that is not hard on the stomach?

Thank you

Karen

  • Hi Karen I don't know if you've thought of it but some people swear by cbd oil I know it needs testing in this country but that takes years..

  • Hello Karen

I would go back and discuss with GP as that is going to be your source for any medication or do you have a medical support team? I was disgnosed with throat cancer last summer and am still in recovery phase but for my pain relief I was given oral morphine plus paracetamol and at my worst Morphine MST tablets. They are slow releasing and stay in system for 12 hrs at a time . So by taking them twice a day I basically had pain relief from Morphine 24 hours a day. Perhaps worth discussing and not sure if Morphine would be a long term solution but worth asking again to try and get your pain under control. This comes in various strenghts as I would imagine Tramadol does. It could well be your body is now used to your current dose and maybe an alternative dose or somethig else needs considered,
I would hope that they are able to come up with a practical solution that resolves your current pain.

    I wish you well.

    kind regards

  • Hi Billy

yeh anno, thats why I said not sure would be allowed as a long term solution..Aware its also meant to be very addictive. My subscriptions were stirctly controlled then reduced slowely but it is available to cancer patients when controlled by medical team and it can be used over quite a number of months.

  • Hi I think its six months on six off, I now my lads in agony with out, the other med does help but not much. His pain is in his back now and again they burn the nerve in his spine to ease pain but it grows back again.
