Extreme sensitivity in breast post-op

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might help reduce hyper-sensitivity following breast surgery? It's been two weeks since I had a lump removed and although there's no muscular pain, my skin is so sore and feels like it's burning all the time. I've tried Ibuprofen gel but it's not a muscular pain.

  • Hey - I have no answers but I’m following post as I have the same sensation in my arm following my mastectomy/ lymph removal - my breast doesn’t have it but it’s all down my arm and it’s horrible x

  • Hi Amanda and past....

I had very Simerla after my masectomy ... they told me if it gets warm / hot to the touch to get in touch with Drs... maybe worth a call to 111 (n h s helpline ... think the number is right) and it looked like my boob was growing back .. wishful thinking ... was hot to the touch .. and there's a possibility of fluid in your arm too ..

Please both call G Ps first thing in the morning ... if not N H S  helpline to check .. l wouldn't panic... but would go soon as poss .. but I'm not qualified ... just a breast cancer lass ... but better safe then sorry .. had to have mine drained twice .. it wasn't painful ... let us know how it goes ..

  • Thanks Chrissie :)

i need to call the ward tomorrow anyway to get my breast drained again so I’ll ask them about my arm too ️

Its hard as we don’t know what’s normal and what’s not when we get this surgery do we

thank you again for your help

  • Yea so right ... they gave me loads of leaflets but none was what l needed .. my scar leaked and turned blue and tight ... l dabbed warm water with sea salt dissolved in it ... it looked horendious at the time ... but just white line now ... l had phone number for oncology nurses ... they drained it once and nurse at G Ps did it once .., can't believe how much came out ...

Mine was done in 2017 ... sometimes it feels like a dream / nightmare... then l look down at missing boob ... nope no dream ... nearly 2 years gone now ... still doing well ... there's lots of us breast lasses on here. . All doing o.k .. so you'll always get answers to questions on here .. as theres always been one of us had the same ...

So you get your vertual boxing gloves on and join us in the ring ... together well kick cancers butt ..

    Chrissie xx

  • You are right - this place has been great and answered so  many questions I’ve had so far - it’s my first go to place

you are always so positive (I’ve seen lots of your replies)

and it’s really refreshing and contagious so thank you

    xx

  • I am 2 years post treatment and one thing I learned is no matter what it is, ring your bcn or medical team. I've had alot of issues and am lucky have good bcn - she will tell me if it's something dr should check or not. The burning I still get when I use my arm - sometimes it's like my nipple is shooting fire! I could be a she dragon and join game of thrones!!!

    Wish you all the best.

  • Thanks Amandajane and everyone else for the support. I'm calling my BCN tomorrow so fingers crossed she'll confirm it's nothing to worry about. All seems to be healing ok, so I guess its just nerve damage.

    Stay strong ladies xxx

  • Hi- I rang mine today to book in a drainage and she said it’s very normal and it’s just coz the nerve has been cut- she said nerves only grow 1-2mm a month so it can take a long time to heal/settle :)
