Help me understand

Hi All,

so just before Christmas my dad was diagnosed with advance esophogeal cancer. He’s had his stent fitted, and started chemo.

We were just given the CT results after his 4th cycle which is his primary tumour remains the same and the one on his liver has grown a little. Dad has agreed to continue with his next two cycles... we also found out today he has clots on his lungs which we will treat with daily injections.

I have so many questions, what does this mean in terms of dads life expectancy? Does this mean the chemo isn’t working? Is this like the best of a bad situation? In reality is this a sign that things won’t improve?

If anyone one can help me with this I’d be so grateful. Feeling confused, worried and fed up.

thanks x

  • Hello Kate2409,

Sorry to hear about your dad it is a shame that the CT results have shown no change in his primary tumour and that the tumour on his liver has grown a little. I hope the treatment for the clots in his lungs work and that the daily injections will help.

I think it is very difficult to predict how this might affect your dad's life expectancy. It might be worth asking these questions to his consultant who will be aware of all the medical details relating to your dad and will be able to best advise you on this.

I hope you will soon hear from some of our members and that they will have some good suggestions for you as many on this forum will understand only too well how you are feeling at the moment.

    Best wishes,
