My dad has bladder cancer

Hi there, was wondering if anyone could answer my question?? My dad is 78 and suffering from bladder cancer. He was diagnosed last year with a small part of it in his bladder. He had surgery where they cut most of it out. They had to leave a small part as they said that they couldn’t get it all out, so there is a small part left in there. Since he has been having regular checkups and looks in good health and is eating good and has lost no weight. He had a scan last week as his checkup was due. He is going back to the hospital on Thursday for results of the scan. Then a few days ago, he has had blood in urine again as this happend when he was first diagnosed. Does this mean that the cancer has spread to other parts or has it got bigger in his bladder. He is also a smoker, currently smoking about 5-6 a day and also has COPD. He suffers quite bad with his breathing. Thank you very much

  • Hi Timpson1980,

I'm sorry to hear your dad is unwell. As I'm sure you know, smoking is not the best habit so it would be a good thing if he is able to cut down and it may help with his breathing problems. You are welcome to speak to our team of nurses for medical advice as well, their number is 0808 800 4040. It free to call the line is open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

All the best to him for Thursday,
