TAMOXIFEN

Hi,  I was prescribed Tamoxifen as ajuvant therapy alongside radiotherapy after my lumpectomy for E+ and sentinel biopsies.  I've been reluctant to take this as the "possible" side effects have put me off.  Mainly DVT and possibility of uterine cancer.

I'm riddled with pain and fatigue due to other health issues so that isn't an issue,  just the two I've mentioned, oh and mood swings.

Grateful for any input on symptoms anyone has experienced to see if there is a pattern?

  • That's great!  Long may that be the case. Thank you for letting me know the brand. I agree we are all individual and I will definitely try other brands if necessary as per yours and other gratefully received advice.

    Thank you so much.

  • My new tamoxifen tablets arrived so I compared the ingredients list. Both brands (Relonchem and Chelonia) have the same ingredients, but listed in a slightly different order, see below. I’ve looked up all the ingredients, and I’ve not found anything linking any of them to the tamoxifen side effects described by women and linked to different brands. I’m at a bit of a loss now. My oncologist described to me an Italian study where women who had not had breast cancer were given a trial hormone therapy drug as part of the testing. 60% of those taking this new drug gave up taking it due to side effects. But 60% of the women who were taking the placebo apparently also gave up due to the side effects.

I’ll let you know if the new formulation has any different effect :)

Here are the two formulations of the different brands.

Brand Relonchem: tamoxifen 20mg, calcium hydrogen phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, povidone, magnesium stearate and colloidal anhydrous silica.

Brand Chelonia: tamoxifen 20mg, calcium hydrogen phosphate, povidone k25, sodium starch glycolate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and colloidal anhydrous silica.

  • It’s interesting to see the different ingredients. Ive looked up the ingredients for mylan : each 20mg tablet contains tamoxifen citrate, mannitol, maize starch, croscarmellose sodium and magnesium stearate.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to think the binding agents/chemicals used can have side effects of their own and that it would be down to the person’s own makeup that would determine any reactions. The Italian study is interesting and I’ll try and find it. All I can say is that I’m happy with the brand I have now.

  • Yes, exactly that. I'm definitely someone that reacts to certain chemicals. Have sensitive skin, so I agree, the binding Agents which make up probably a third will affect some.

    :D

  • What was the brand that you felt best on?

  • HI

I'm new to this forum.  I have been on mylan brand for 6 and half years.  Have been having huge difficulties in sourcing this - I believe it may be offline.  I spoke with a pharmacist and she mentioned that TEVA appeared to be a popular choice.  I wonder if you could let me know the details of ingredients for TEVA so that I can compare to Mylan.  Worried about switching to another brand due to side effects.

  • Hi

I started on Mylan tamoxifen and my symptoms have not been too bad. But now the pharmacy can no longer get this brand. Do you have any advice of what would be similar. So nervous about changing.

    thanks
